The classic New Orleans version of a doughnut!
Ingredients
Beignet Mix - One Package
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Added later
1/4 cup butter or margarine
3/4 cup water
3 teaspoons sugar
1 package Beignet mix
4 large eggs
●vegetable oil for frying
●powdered sugar
Equipment
Medium Sauce Pan
Large Mixing Bowl
Measuring cups
Measuring spoons
Wooden Spoon
Heavy 5-6 Qt. Sauce Pan
Candy Thermometer
Paper Towels for draining
Sifter for Powdered Sugar
Step by Step
● Combine Beignet Mix dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl
● In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, water, and sugar.
● Bring the mixture to a
boil and remove the pan from the heat.
● Add the Beignet mix and beat with a wooden
spoon until the mixture leaves the sides of the pan.
● Add the eggs, one at a time,
and beat until the mixture is smooth.
● Heat 4 inches of oil in a heavy 5 to 6 quart saucepan to 360 degrees F.
● Drop the dough by tablespoonfuls into the oil, and cook
about 3 minutes until each is puffed and golden.
● Drain the beignets on paper towels
● Sift powdered sugar over each one
● Makes 2 dozen.
● Enjoy!
Instructions for Gift Jar
Use a large mouth quart jar. Place Beignet Mix in jar. Place 8" x 8" square of decorative cloth over closed lid with rubber band.
Attach Tag with instructions.
